As a piano teacher of more than fifteen years experience, I have taught young beginners, older beginners, transfer students from other teachers, and taught refresher lessons to those who learnt in their childhood and wish to rediscover their skills. I aim to develop a love of music in my students, and to that end I teach a range of material, from classical to jazz, to more contemporary songs. I also bring composition and important theory elements into lessons, often through the use of "off the bench" games and iPad apps, especially for my younger students.
My primary aim as a teacher is to promote great pianistic technique, solid music reading skills and to encourage students to have an active repertoire of pieces they can perform - at the same time as making each lesson enjoyable, inspiring and thought provoking. When students are at a suitable point in their learning journey it is possible to take piano exams but this in no way essential. I see them as a by-product of a quality musical education. All my students are invited to participate in regular piano recitals I organise at a local venue. As well as providing valuable performance experience within a supportive environment, they are also an enjoyable opportunity to thank the family and friends who support the students. I believe in the importance of continuing professional development as a teacher and musician and am a member of the European Piano Teachers' Association and the Curious Piano Teachers which allows me to enrich my teaching with the latest pedigogical research and resources. I also have a full DBS check and am registered with the ICO. |
