Guiding Principles
As a member of EPTA and the Curious Piano Teachers I have a set of Guiding Principles at the heart of my teaching practice.
~ Lessons engage the pupil's creative and imaginative nature, and should be fun!
~ Each pupil is unique and will benefit from a tailored and highly individualised approach.
~ Making music is at the heart of every lesson.
~ Early lessons focus on building a solid understanding of musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm and pulse. Some lesson time will be based away from the piano, using the body and the voice.
~ Learning to play the piano is its own reward; exams are in no way compulsory. However, performance skills are hugely valuable and pupils are strongly encouraged to take opportunities to perform, no matter what their level.
